Graduate Certificate in African American Studies (proposed)
The graduate certificate in African American Studies offers graduate students in Arts and Sciences, Business, Divinity, Law, and Medicine the opportunity to gain foundational knowledge and critical facility with the content, methods, and theories of the discipline for research, teaching, and professional development. The graduate certificate in African American Studies enables graduate students to work closely with faculty in the department and colleagues across the University in advancing scholarly research, collaboration, and professional training.
Graduate students must complete four (4) courses to receive the Graduate Certificate in African American Studies. The program requirements include the following:
- AAS 500: Knowledges, Texts, and Traditions in African American Studies
- Three (3) graduate elective seminars
Graduate students work closely with their graduate advisor in the department to develop a program of study that will enable them to successfully achieve their scholarly and professional goals.
